About the Role

You will play a pivotal role in delivering services primarily to Black and racialized youth who are involved with the justice system and their families. This is a place-based role, with a strong focus on working directly within the community to provide tailored, client-centered support. You will spearhead case management through on-the-ground engagement, delivering direct intervention, advocacy, and connecting youth to mental health services, educational and employment opportunities, and resources. By coordinating comprehensive wraparound support, you will assist in overcoming systemic barriers and overall development and well-being. Your work will be central to helping Black and racialized youth navigate challenges, reclaim their potential, and build a brighter future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Youth Engagement & Support: Provide community-based individual and group counselling, mentorship, and crisis intervention to help youth navigate challenges related to the justice system and systemic marginalization. Engage and develop meaningful connections with Black and racialized hard-to-reach youth involved in the justice system.
  • Community Outreach: Work closely with community houses, conduct ongoing community needs assessments and outreach to ensure the program is accessible, needs-responsive and culturally reflective.
  • Program Development: Contribute to program design, development and deliver services which demonstrate an understanding of the context of Anti-Black Racism, Anti-oppression, poverty, and diversity.
  • Partnership Development: Establish linkages with youth and partners, liaising with clients, community partners such as school administration, local community agencies, and Probation and Extra Judiciary programs.
  • Family Engagement: Actively engage families through outreach, drop-in spaces, educational sessions, and system navigation support to empower parents/caregivers in supporting their children and youth.
  • Advocacy & Capacity Building: Advocate for youth and families, focusing on reducing risk factors rooted in inequities, inaccessibility, and discrimination, while enhancing protective factors.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Ensure all support services are culturally responsive, reflective, and relevant to the lived experiences of the youth and families served.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Social Work / Social Services Worker diploma or other Degree in a relevant field (i.e. counselling).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in case management, youth justice, or a related field, with a proven track record of working with at-risk youth.
  • Must be a member in good standing with a regulated college as per current standards, for practicing social work, or psychotherapy (i.e. CRPO, OCSWSSW).
  • Knowledge and experience working with Black and racialized youth who are involved or in proximity to the criminal justice system, including systemic issues affecting marginalized communities.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working with youth/adult with mental health /behavioral & emotional issues.
  • Knowledge of, and or lived experience of the Black communities in Ottawa is an asset.
  • Experience with developing and facilitating groups focusing on mental health, emotional issues and other behavioral issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to speak French and other languages are a strong asset.
  • Strong computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and other databases.
  • Works flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet client needs.
