to Covid-19

In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, effective March 16th 2020, Britannia Woods has had to re-adjust its operations and respond to emerging community needs. Below are changes and announcements.

Food Pantry: We have increased our hours of operation to better serve community members. To adhere to public health measures, you must contact us in advance and book an appointment.

Once a month we provide clients with a two to three day supply of unprepared, non-perishable food (often supplemented with staples like bread, milk, and vegetables). Please contact us to discuss your needs should you need more support.

Tuesdays: 2:00 – 7:00 pm

Thursdays: 11:00 – 4:00 pm

Fridays: 11:00 – 4:00 pm

We are also offering delivery of food pantry support to households who are medically compromised, are seniors and/or unable to leave their home due to childcare needs. In partnership with the Ottawa Network for Education, we are distribution healthy Breakfast Kits on a regular basis. Anyone can access a kit, please give us a call!

Black Racialized Individuals Support Channel (BRISC)

We take pride in being a responsive community-based agency. Thus, in alignment with our mission and values, we are introducing a culturally adapted support line to respond to the unique social and emotional needs that the COVID-19 Pandemic has exacerbated for racialized communities, especially African, Caribbean & Black communities (ACB).   

The Britannia Woods Support Line was created as a response to the increased emotional and social needs that we saw in Ottawa West neighbourhoods at the onset of the pandemic, and currently.  

Generously funded by Ottawa Community Foundation, this service will be available temporarily beginning June 15th, 2020 to September 24th, 2021.

What we are Offering: The goal of the support line is to provide a safe haven via telephone for racialized individuals, especially ACB individuals in the Ottawa West areas that are dealing with emotional issues rooted in isolation, discrimination, racism or everyday stressors. In addition, given that many racialized individuals stressors are compounded with personal/ systemic hardships such as  (food insecurity, language/literacy impediments, academic discrepancies etc.) we will be providing proximity care  supports; by delivering care packages & food, providing in person crisis mitigation strategies and engage in  social, academic and literacy support to children and adults. Lastly, BWSL will be supporting individuals with the navigation process to access community resources, especially individuals face who language and literacy barriers.

Community Engagement

We have paused all regular community activities and events until further notice. We will post details regarding our Annual General Meeting shortly.

Community Garden

We have recently opened our community garden located in the Britannia Woods community, following guidelines from public health and Just Food. All plots have been accounted for and we look forward to sharing the fruits of the gardens this year!

Children/ Youth Programming

We have paused all in-person community programming.  We reviewing public health guidelines and processes and following provincial protocols. We continue to offer Make-it-Club Activity Kits to engage in STEAM activities at home, safely! If you want a kit, please call or email us directly.

We are offering Back to School supplies registration for Fall 2020. To register children, please contact us at 613-820-0853.

SNAP Program

SNAP services continue to be offered remotely and, in the community through proximity visits;  following provincial guidelines. We are actively taking registration of new clients, please contact us at 613-820-0853 and choose the SNAP option.

For amazing, fun and engaging content geared towards youth please follow the thehouse.podcast! They regularly host giveaways and highlight great youth initiatives.

CEO Apparel, a clothing line from Ibraheem Bokhari and his friends (a youth and one of our After-School Program Staff) has released at special T-shirt in partnership with Britannia Woods to celebrate the graduates of 2020!
