Our Story
Britannia Woods Community House is the national capital’s charity for supporting and delivering youth work in the community. We believe in changing lives through youth work.
We are located directly in the heart of the Ottawa Community Housing Corporation’s Britannia Woods community in the west end of Ottawa.
The Britannia Woods Community House opened in 1976 with the purpose of ensuring the families living in the Britannia Woods community had access to social, educational and recreational supports. In the early 1990s, an Emergency Food Pantry was implemented to provide families with an emergency supply of food.
Over the last 30 years, the Community House has been offering a wide range of programs and services that aim to improve the quality of life for multicultural families and households living on a fixed or low income.
Programs and services are delivered in a community-led, holistic approach. The Community House works with the whole family unit; from preschool to school-aged to youth to adults. Community engagement is the key to success!
The Britannia Woods community has a large population of children and youth (approximately 64% of residents are under the age of 20). The Community House staff strive to provide children and youth a nurturing and fun place to play and learn that will encourage their healthy development.
